Back in 2004, I recorded the first track in this collection but didn't initially distribute it widely. Subsequently, the master sat in my archives until I rediscovered it in 2007 when I decided to send it in lieu of Christmas cards to a group of family and close friends. Surprisingly, I received a positive response and thought that someday I might revisit the idea of recording some other arrangements of holiday music that I had developed over the years. All the tracks (the first in 2004 and the rest in 2010) were recorded in my apartment in Union City, NJ from the perspective of a listener sitting on the couch a few feet from the piano. Very little processing was used in order to convey this setting in its most realistic form.
The piano on this recording is an 1896 Steinway & Sons Model 'A' completely rebuilt and restored in the 1990s by master piano technician James Karr, who continues to tune and regulate it to this day. Without question it is among the best instruments I have ever had the pleasure of playing. Thank you Jamie!
